When you are sending your resume to an employer or a recruiter, make sure to name your document as “JohnSmith.doc” or “John Smith – Software Engineer.doc” rather than “resume.doc”.
This helps recruiters in agencies as well as corporate recruiters easily locate your resume in the folders on their computer.
I would also submit your resume in Microsoft Word format rather than .pdf. Most applicant tracking systems can read both but it’s more likely the field extractor for the database will read Word docs correctly.
Recruiters also like to brand the resume with their logo and this makes it a lot easier to do so or they can republish to .pdf if they need to later.
